Abstract

In this book, the complex topic of crypto securities is presented in a compact, understandable and practical manner. In addition to conveying the fundamentals and technical background of the crypto market, a classification in the various areas of regulatory law is made. The focus is on German law, although reference is also made to the European equivalence standards. In order to succeed in a correct classification into European financial market law, both the Liechtenstein law on tokens and VT service providers and the European proposal for a regulation on markets for crypto assets are discussed in detail and compared with the German regulatory provisions on crypto assets. The goal, in addition to creating a basic understanding of how crypto assets work, is to construct a comprehensive overall picture of their regulatory treatment in Germany and to include possible implications of a European push. The work thus provides guidance for individuals who, for example, want to invest in crypto assets or start a business related to crypto assets. The Contents: - Basic knowledge of crypto assets - Regulatory classification of crypto assets - Developments on national and European level (TVTG, MiCAR) - Comparison and critical appraisal of regulatory approaches. The Author: Hannah Appel is a staff member of the Research Lab for Law and applied Technologies at Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences and an associate at a leading international commercial law firm. Already during her studies of business law, she intensively dealt with digitalization topics as well as European and financial market law. This book is a translation of an original German edition. The translation was done with the help of artificial intelligence (machine translation by the service DeepL.com). A subsequent human revision was done primarily in terms of content, so that the book will read stylistically differently from a conventional translation. .

Abstract

The book provides a comprehensive overview of the latest econometric methods for studying the dynamics of macroeconomic and financial time series. It examines alternative methodological approaches and concepts, including quantile spectra and co-spectra, and explores topics such as non-linear and non-stationary behavior, stochastic volatility models, and the econometrics of commodity markets and globalization. Furthermore, it demonstrates the application of recent techniques in various fields: in the frequency domain, in the analysis of persistent dynamics, in the estimation of state space models and new classes of volatility models. The book is divided into two parts: The first part applies econometrics to the field of macroeconomics, discussing trend/cycle decomposition, growth analysis, monetary policy and international trade. The second part applies econometrics to a wide range of topics in financial economics, including price dynamics in equity, commodity and foreign exchange markets and portfolio analysis. The book is essential reading for scholars, students, and practitioners in government and financial institutions interested in applying recent econometric time series methods to financial and economic data.

Abstract

This textbook helps students truly understand how to apply the principles behind corporate finance in a real world context from both a firm and investor perspective. In its second edition, this text focuses on traditional theory applied to a holistic and realistic business case study, written as a novel set in current times so that all readers can relate. As such, this textbook offers readers both a quantitative and qualitative perspective on topics such as capital budgeting, time value of money, corporate risk, and capital structure. The sections are laid out to mirror the financial decision process, making it easier for readers to grasp the idea of the corporate financial life cycle. New topics such as socially responsible investing and private capital markets are also incorporated into this edition. Finally, PowerPoint slides, answer keys and data sets are available online for instructors.

Abstract

International financial centres have come to represent a major economic stake. Yet no historical study has been devoted to them. Professor Cassis, a leading financial historian, attempts to fill this gap by providing a comparative history of the most important centres that constitute the capitals of capital - New York, London, Frankfurt, Paris, Zurich, Amsterdam, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Singapore - from the beginning of the industrial age up to the present. The book has been conceived as a reflection on the dynamics of the rise and decline of international financial centres, setting them in their economic, political, social, and cultural context. While rooted in a strong and lively historical narrative, it draws on the concepts of financial economics in its analysis of events. It should widely appeal to business and finance professionals as well as to scholars and students in financial and economic history.

Abstract

Recent events in East Asia have highlighted the risks of volatility and contagion in a financially integrated world. Countries in the region had been at the forefront of the movement towards increased integration but the crisis that struck Thailand in July 1997, and the rapidity with which it spread to other East Asian nations, suggested that all was not well. Weaknesses in domestic financial intermediation, poor corporate governance and deficient government responses to large capital inflows all played a role in the build-up of vulnerability. Abstract

World Financial Orders challenges the predominance of neo-liberalism as a mode of knowledge about contemporary world finance, and claims that it neglects the social and political bases as well as the malign consequences of change. He looks to the field of International Political Economy (IPE) to construct an alternative mode, one that critically restores society and politics. An 'historical' approach to IPE is advanced that accounts for modern world finance since the seventeenth century as a succession of structurally distinct hierarchical social orders. This book will be of intere

Abstract

Humanitarian crises have become more frequent, complex and protracted. If current trends continue, it is estimated that by 2030, humanitarian assistance costs could increase to $50 billion per year. By then, two-thirds of the worlds poor are at risk of living in conflict-affected countries. To bridge the gap, humanitarian organizations are increasingly utilizing innovative financing tools such as impact bonds, faith-based finance and other innovative financial products and services to mobilize greater funding to address humanitarian needs. This book is among the first to assess a set of innovative financing mechanisms that have been transforming the humanitarian sector and explores their key opportunities, challenges and future prospects. This book will be of interest to academics, practitioners, humanitarian organizations and policy makers involved in humanitarian financing and to the humanitarian sector in general. Maram Ahmed teaches at the Faculty of Law and Social Sciences, SOAS, University of London. Maram has published in various key academic and policy journals and has also published and been featured in mainstream media publications such as the Financial Times, CNBC, Reuters, the World Economic Forum, Devex and others. Abstract

This book focuses on how religion-particularly Christianity, Islam, Judaism, and, to a lesser extent, Hinduism-is shaping the ethos and daily actions of market participants within the global money markets. The concepts inherent within Christianity, Islam, Judaism, and Hinduism are making themselves felt within the global money markets. As Islamic finance led to the introduction of sharia compliant derivatives, for example, Christian investment funds are leading ethical initiatives on Wall Street, the City of London, and elsewhere such as divesting from fossil fuels in response to the climate change emergency. Jewish faith led funds are making significant strides with the further development of impact investments. The concept of Hindu economics is also beginning to shape the actions of some market participants which are tied to the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi. James Simon Watkins is a Lecturer at the University of Law in the UK and is the author of Islamic Finance and Global Capitalism: An Alternative to the Market Economy (2020). He was the Political Adviser at the Embassy of Japan in London and he has worked in the UK Houses of Parliament. He was the Chief Executive of a business group and was a UK Labour Party candidate for the 2014 European Parliament election. .
